This ministry provides youth members of the parish with a true opportunity to function as lay ministers by reverently assisting the celebrant and/or deacon during Sunday Mass and at special liturgies throughout the year.
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy.
Altar servers carry the cross and the processional candles, hold the book for the priest when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer, assist the priest when he receives the gifts of bread and wine from the congregation, wash the hands of the priest, and assist the priest and deacon in other ways throughout the Mass.
